Help!

A. URGENT NEW PROJECTS – AFGHAN DETAINEES

3 Afghan brothers were detained about 2 months ago. Alhamdulillah one of our volunteers who is also an Afghan has been visiting them from time to time – although they are in good health, there is no indication when they will be released.

Meanwhile, their wives and children have been left to fend for themselves. It is only by the grace of Allah and the kindness of a Muslim brother that they have been getting by with some financial assistance but in all honesty, it is a heavy burden for the brother to bear as his resources are also limited and we were quite upset with ourselves for not having done anything earlier.

They live in almost completely bare homes, without even mattresses, cupboards, tables or chairs and just a pot and pan or two. Alhamdulillah, when we visited them earlier this week, we brought with us some clothes and toys donated previously by the volunteers in this group – just seeing the kids having something to play with and distract themselves from the sadness of the empty home without their father, was a touching sight to behold. Some photos are attached below.

Details of the families:

Family #1

Mother aged 26

4 children aged 7, 5, 3 & 4 months

Family #2

Mother aged 24

1 child aged 2

Family #3

Mother aged 34 and is DIABETIC

4 children aged 12, 9, 7 & 6 months

The first family needs to vacate their home within the next two weeks as the landlord has sold the apartment.

The mother of the 3rd family is diabetic.

They all can’t speak English and it is almost impossible to communicate with them without the aid of a translator who speaks Farsi. This makes it additionally difficult for them to get around, find work, and to even ask for assistance.

As a matter of urgency, we would like to put together the following to be given to them as soon as possible:

1.      Financial aid – to help them pay the rent & other urgent expenses.

2.      Food vouchers – to avoid too many similar food items being given; we think vouchers would be best so that they can buy the items they need without worrying about storage, expiry dates and such.

3.      Furniture – mattresses, shelves, cupboard, a small dining table that sits 4, cushions

4.      Crockery – Pots, pans, cooking utensils, perhaps some nice cutlery for the children

5.      Clothes and shoes – abaya for the mothers and clothes for the children

6.      Toys – they just love toys!

7.      School equipment – school bags, stationery,

8.      Stroller/baby rocking chair

B.  ADDITIONAL PROJECTS

1.      Another 3 Afghan families

We are in the midst of putting together some information on another 3 families who are also very much in need and will post the information on them as soon as we can insyaAllah.

2.      Another 2 Syrian families are in need of the following:

·         Beds

·         Mattresses

·         Cupboards

·         Ladies shoes (sizes 39, 37 (2 pairs), 36)

·         Boys shoes (size 34)
